We are excited to invite you to join our upcoming reading class as we prepare for our special event with Juliana Léveillé-Trudel, author of Nirliit . This class will be an excellent opportunity to dive deeper into the text, discuss key themes, and craft thoughtful questions for the author. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the book, this will be a great way to enrich your experience and make the most of the upcoming event.
Attendees to this workshop are expected to read the book in advance.
The workshop will have as objective to prepare a list of questions for the meet and greet with the author the following week.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Level : B1 - C1 (Intermediate and up)
Genre : Novel
Themes: Inuit culture, disappearance, women, transmission, territory, perseverance, friendship
A young woman from the South who, like the geese, often makes the journey to Salluit, talks to Eva, her missing friend from the North, whose body is in the water of the fjord and whose spirit is everywhere. The North is hard - “there's violent love between the walls of these almost identical houses” - and the adventurous missionary wonders how one goes about healing one's heart. Juliana Léveillé-Trudel delivers a tale of love and friendship as beautiful and rugged as the tundra. Nirliit shares the “punch-in-the-belly beauty” of the North.
You can register for the author event on March 7th here: https://www.afsf.com/community/event-rsvp/?event_id=553
